Birmingham Artwalk

September 11–12, 2026
Downtown Birmingham

One of Birmingham's favorite fall traditions returns this September with Birmingham Artwalk, a free, two-day arts festival in the city's downtown Loft District.

The 2026 event takes place Friday, September 11 from 5–10 p.m. and Saturday, September 12 from 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Visitors can browse the work of more than 100 visual artists while enjoying live music, street performers, food and drinks, and family-friendly activities.

The Artwalk KidZone will also offer children an opportunity to participate in hands-on arts and crafts activities on Saturday.

Come From Away at Red Mountain Theatre

September 10–20, 2026
Red Mountain Theatre | Birmingham

The Tony Award-winning musical Come From Away comes to Birmingham this September at Red Mountain Theatre.

The musical tells the true story of the small Canadian town of Gander, Newfoundland, which welcomed thousands of airline passengers stranded after the September 11 attacks. The production offers an inspiring story about kindness, community and compassion.

Performances run September 10–20, with evening and weekend performances available.

Alabama State Fair

September 18–27, 2026
Birmingham Race Course | Birmingham

It's hard to talk about September in the Birmingham area without mentioning the Alabama State Fair!

The 2026 Alabama State Fair runs September 18–27 at the Birmingham Race Course. Families can enjoy carnival rides, games, food, entertainment and attractions throughout the 10-day event.

This year's attractions include a kids petting zoo, Tails of the Tropics featuring capuchin monkeys and macaws, helicopter rides, Rastelli Circus, A Grizzly Experience and Sky High Skyler.

Admission is $15 for adults, $5 for youth ages 5–12, $5 for seniors, and children age 4 and under are free. Discounted advance tickets are also available online.

While the Alabama State Fair is technically located in Birmingham rather than Pelham, it's a great September outing for residents throughout Pelham, Hoover, Birmingham and the surrounding communities.

Southbound Food Festival

September 18–27, 2026
Various locations throughout Birmingham

Food lovers have plenty to look forward to this September during the Southbound Food Festival.

The 10-day celebration highlights Birmingham's growing culinary scene with special dinners, chef collaborations, markets, brunches, live music and other food-focused experiences.

The 2026 festival features more than 100 chefs and events throughout the Birmingham area, including events at Pepper Place and Sloss Furnaces.

Whether you're looking for a special night out or want to discover some of Birmingham's local restaurants and chefs, Southbound is a great way to experience the city's food culture.

Salsa in the Park

September 20, 2026 | 5–8 p.m.
Pelham City Park

Looking for something closer to home? Salsa in the Park returns to Pelham on September 20.

The event is listed on the City of Pelham's September calendar and provides an opportunity for residents to enjoy an evening at City Park.

UAB Medicine GT World Alabama

September 25–27, 2026
Barber Motorsports Park

Motorsports fans won't want to miss UAB Medicine GT World Alabama, taking place September 25–27 at Barber Motorsports Park.

The weekend features GT World Challenge America, GT America, Pirelli GT4 America, Toyota GR Cup North America and TC America racing.

There are also plenty of activities away from the track, including a kids zone, garage access, autograph opportunities and the Birmingham Car Festival.

Barber Motorsports Park is located at 6040 Barber Motorsports Parkway, making this a convenient event for residents of Birmingham, Pelham, Hoover and communities throughout Shelby County.

Fiesta BHAM

September 26, 2026
Linn Park | Downtown Birmingham

Celebrate Hispanic culture, food, music and traditions at Fiesta BHAM on Saturday, September 26.

Located at Linn Park in downtown Birmingham, Fiesta is a family-friendly celebration featuring cultural exhibits, food, music, dancing, children's activities, community organizations and more.

The 2026 event will also feature a cultural village, family village, food village, health and wellness village and live entertainment.

Together Under One Flag Celebration in Pelham

September 27, 2026 | 4–6:30 p.m.
Pelham City Park

Pelham residents can wrap up the month with the Together Under One Flag Celebration at City Park.

The free community event celebrates America's 250th birthday and includes live music from Act of Congress, bounce houses, a balloon artist, games, food trucks and other family-friendly activities.

The event takes place at Pelham City Park, 555 Ballpark Road, and no registration is required.
